The Ken-Friends Mailing List is an "incredible band of people".
At this time (March of 2001), there are over 400 members from 21 countries.
Ken-Friends talk not only about the work and life of THE BEARD, but also about THE
BARD, Shakespeare movies, other Shakespeare actors (e.g. Sir Derek Jacobi, Sir John Gielgud, Richard Briers, Michael Maloney, Dame Judi Dench - to
mention just a few) and other people who have worked with Ken Branagh in the past.
The list is quite busy (around 30 mails a day) and, as I experienced, people are
obsessed, but still kind, and they try not to take themselves too seriously which means they are settled down on earth.
The Ken-Friends Mailing List was founded in 1996 by Ngoc. It used to be a member of
eGroups but was "adopted" by Yahoo a few weeks ago. There are certain rules to
follow, but it isn't hard. You will get an e-mail from the modarators, Jane and
Marilyn, with all the rules, as soon as you join the list. But I thought you
might like to read the rules before joining us, so here is what I got after I
became an official Ken-Friend:

Please restrict conversation to Ken's PROFESSIONAL WORK. We know how much he values his privacy, and to respect this his personal life (e.g., his separation from Emma Thompson, smoking habits, et cetera) shouldn't be analyzed or speculated on by 300+ people on a public distribution list. So please refrain from personal gossip and use common sense to decide what is and is not appropriate discussion material.

Combine responses to posts into ONE message, if possible, especially if you frequently post 4-5 times in succession a day.

Try to refrain from one-line posts. EXAMPLE: Posts that consist of just "Yeah, I agree!" or a similar brief comment should perhaps be sent only to the original poster with whom you're agreeing, not to the entire list.

Change subject header accordingly as thread content changes. Discussion of one topic frequently meanders into other areas, and this should be indicated in the subject header--this helps those who are only interested in certain topics of discussion.

Off-topic messages (anything unrelated to Ken) should contain an "OFT:" warning in the header. We don't mind the occasional off-topic post, especially when there's a lack of Ken material to discuss, but generally try to refrain from getting carried away with OFT threads. If you're really interested in an OFT thread, continue correspondence with the person who originally brought it up.

Personal e-mails should be done OFF-LIST. This includes address requests and off-topic responses.

Try to keep profanity to a minimum. We don't mind it in general, but in the interest of not offending any one of the *MANY* people on this list, we'll try to behave according to polite societal norms. :)

Absolutely no attachments (especially image or sound files) or off-topic forwards should be sent to the list.
